During repointing the old mortar joints are carefully ground or raked out and refilled, in the joint colour and profile that suits the facade. Failing pointing is a facade's biggest source of damp: rainwater is drawn straight into the wall through sanding joints.
Repointing costs € 40 to € 75 per m², including grinding out. For patch repairs most companies apply a minimum rate; historic tuck pointing costs more.
Done well, new pointing lasts for decades. Combine it with cleaning and impregnation for a complete facade renovation on one scaffold build.
